Depart London on your international flight to Auckland.
Upon arrival in Auckland this morning you will be welcomed by one of our representatives who will hand you your documentation and transfer you to the domestic terminal. Here you will fly to Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands. Collect your hire car from the airport and make your way to the coastal town of Paihia.
Spend the day at leisure exploring the Bay of Islands. Pay a visit to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, the historic location of the treaty signed between the Maori chiefs and the British Crown. Take a scenic flight to Ninety Mile Beach and Cape Reinga or a boat trip through the 'Hole in the Rock'.
Today you will drive down to Auckland, the 'City of Sails'. Take a stroll around the harbour, visit Auckland Museum or take a ferry journey across to Rangitoto Island for scenic views back across to the city.
Day 6Auckland - Whakatane
Take a relaxed drive down the coast passing some of New Zealand's finest beaches. Tauranga and Mount Maunganui have particularly nice sands and are watched over by 'The Mount', which has great views over the Bay of Plenty. Whakatane is just a little further on and is a regular contender for sunniest spot in the country.
White Island is New Zealand's only marine volcano and it lies 49km offshore. On this fascinating trip you will approach the island by luxury launch before landing using a rigid inflatable boat. Once on land you can explore former sulphur mines and enjoy the unique experience of standing on a live volcano.
Day 8Whakatane - Rotorua
The drive from Whakatane to Rotorua is just a short one, so you will have plenty of time to discover the geysers and Maori culture the town is renowned for. The hydrogen sulphide that bubbles up from the bowels of the Earth gives Rotorua a distinctive aroma, but it's a friendly and fascinating place even if the locals do stick their tongues out at you.
The easy 2.5 hour journey from Rotorua to Napier takes you via Lake Taupo, NZ's largest lake. This is a great spot for a waterside lunch. The views across the lake to the snow capped volcanoes, Mt Ruapehu and Mt Ngauruhoe, are some of the most spectacular in the North Island.
Take a morning trip to Cape Kidnappers to see the gannet colony and hear stories about Captain Cook and the tale behind the naming of the Cape. Spend the afternoon exploring the Hawke's Bay vineyards sampling the local produce.
Take a leisurely drive down to Martinborough and spend the afternoon wandering amongst the vineyards.
You may wish to visit Wellington today. Here you can visit Te Papa Museum and take a stroll around the botanical gardens. The hop on, hop off bus is a very convenient way to explore the city.
Today you will drive to Wellington Airport to drop off your hire car. You will then board your flight back to Auckland and on to London.
