The currency of Fiji is the Fiji dollar (FJ$ or FJD). You’ll find ATMs in larger cities and credit cards are accepted in most hotels and restaurants in major destinations, but cash is preferred in more rural areas and on smaller islands.
What food and drink should I try in Fiji?
In Fiji, you should try kokoda (marinated fish), palusami (coconut cream cooked in a taro leaf), and fish suruwa (fish curry). Fish and seafood are staples on the menu in Fiji, often cooked in lolo (coconut cream), while slow-cooked pork is reserved for special occasions. Most meals are accompanied by a root vegetable such as yam, cassava, or taro, and you’ll often find meals are an infusion of Fijian, Polynesian, Indian, Chinese, and Western influences.

Are there any religious traditions or customs I should be aware of in Fiji?
In Fiji, you should never touch another person’s head because it’s considered the most sacred part of the body. If you’re visiting a village, bring a gift for the chief and dress modestly with clothes that cover your shoulders and knees. Remove your hat and sunglasses — only the chief can wear them — and avoid visiting on a Sunday, it’s considered a family day.
If you’re lucky enough to be invited into someone’s house, bring a small gift, remove your shoes before entering, and wait to be told where to sit. At meals, wait for a blessing before you begin. If you’re offered a welcome drink of yaqona, take a sip, and pass it on.

Where should I go in Fiji?
In Fiji, most visitors stay on the Yasawa Islands. On a short trip you could stay on Viti Levu or the nearby Mamanuca Islands, while more remote Vanua Levu and Taveuni are good options if you have more time. Visiting more than one island gives you a better sense of what Fiji is like, whether you’re after pristine beaches and thatched fishing villages in the Yasawa Islands or in search of cultural traditions, volcanic landscapes, and reef and wall diving in Taveuni. If you’re short on time, manmade Denarau Island offers a choice of resorts and a golf course close to the airport.

What's the best way of getting around in Fiji?
The best way to get around Fiji’s larger islands is by car. For example, you can rent a car on Viti Levu, the largest island, and traffic is generally light outside the towns. If you’d prefer not to drive, we can arrange a private car with driver, or you could take a taxi, but it’s a good idea to agree the fare before starting your journey.
With 300 or so islands, boat travel is also a great way to get around, and you can take a ferry from Viti Levu to the Yasawa Islands or take a cruise to see several groups of islands.
Do I need a visa to visit Fiji?
UK citizens don’t need a visa to visit Fiji for stays of up to four months. Citizens of other countries should check their visa requirements.
Do I need vaccinations to visit Fiji?
