This collection of 610 islands off Sorong, most of which are uninhabited, is considered to offer the best diving in Indonesia and some of the best in the world.
There's an incredible diversity of fish, huge reef systems and the mixture of hard and soft corals are the main attraction. However, visitors can also enjoy spectacular birdlife, dramatic scenery and isolated beaches.
Raja Ampat is still not really on the tourist trail and is definitely a destination to get to as soon as possible and before the infrastructure develops and divers start flocking here.
