Have your camera at hand during all times whilst in the Arenal region, just in case you're lucky enough to experience an eruption.

As part of his role, he has returned to South America on several occasions to expand his knowledge of Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Guyana, Argentina and Antarctica.
Nick has also played an integral part in assisting with the set up of the Central America programme by travelling through Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras.
My Most Memorable Experience
"During a recent familiarisation trip I was lucky enough to stay in the Bolivian Amazon at a fantastic lodge called Chalalan Ecolodge. This is run by a community of 70 indigenous people and offers superb wildlife spotting opportunities.
You access the lodge by a short flight over the Andes from La Paz to the nearest town called Rurrenabque. However, because of flight delays for 2 days (due to bad weather) I was forced to do this trip overland.
It took 15 hours and is usually very scenic, except most of the trip took place during the night when it was foggy, in a car that was unroadworthy!
Travelling for this amount of time around mountains on roads that are barely wide enough for one car, let alone two, is nerve-racking enough. But adding to this the fact that there were 500 ft vertical drops down the mountain side only centimetres away made this quite an unforgettable experience."
My Favourite Destination
"Chile is a fantastic country with a diverse range of landscapes. Every part of the country fascinates me including the desert region in the north, the central valley around Santiago, the lake district and Patagonia.
The country has so much to offer and so many outdoor activities. The infrastructure is good with reliable airlines operating regularly.
It can also be combined easily with Argentina, another fantastic country."
My Favourite Accommodation
"There is an ecolodge in Nicaragua called Morgans Rock that is located remotely on the Pacific coast near to a town called San Juan del Sur.
The ecolodges are furnished to an exceptional standard using local materials and the setting is sublime. Perched on a hillside, the infiniity pool overlooks the ocean. There is a stunning white sandy beach a short walk down from the lodges and all of the accommodation feature a mesh wall in order for guests to hear the gentle lapping of the ocean at night.
This is a fantastic hideaway to spend some time relaxing."
