Paradee Resort

Paradee Resort

Koh Samet, Thailand

The resort's remote location almost gives it the feel of a private island, and Paradee, which means 'The Sixth Heaven', has the advantage of both east- and west-facing coastlines, for superb sunrise and sunset views. Guests come here to enjoy the beautiful setting among lush, tropical jungle and white sand beaches, spending most of their time relaxing with a good book or taking advantage of the excellent snorkelling and diving in the area.

Accommodation is in palm-thatched, whitewashed villas set among the jungle, and service is very friendly, with Thai good nature shining through.

OUR OPINION:

The Paradee enjoys a picturesque and secluded location, yet is within easy reach of Bangkok airport. Guests here enjoy the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, and the beautiful sunsets.

Rooms

The palm-thatched, whitewashed villas feature a stylish blend of earthy, Mediterranean style and Asian design, for a warm and welcoming feel. All the villas are spacious, with plenty of room to relax both inside and outside, featuring air conditioning, Wi-Fi, TVs and stereos/DVD players.

They're divided into several categories, with the entry level Garden Villas set among the jungle and sharing a communal pool. They still offer ample space at 100 square metres, and guests have the option to upgrade to a Garden Pool Villa should they prefer to have their own private pool. Beachfront Pool Villas offer the same amenities as Garden Pool Villas but are set on the beachfront; with two in particular offering wonderful panoramic views of the ocean. For the ultimate in luxury, the Paradee Suite is set on secluded rocks overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, boasting its own infinity pool, rooftop sala for private spa treatments, a private cocktail bar, personal butler service and steps leading down to the beach.

Location

The island of Koh Samet, in the Gulf of Thailand, is only about three hours by car and boat from Bangkok. Despite being a popular weekend break destination for Bangkok residents, the island is relatively underdeveloped, and most of it has been designated as a national park. There are few paved roads, a lush jungle interior and a scattering of small lodges and hotels.

The Paradee enjoys a beautifully secluded and remote location, on the southern tip of the island, about 20 minutes by road or ten minutes by speedboat from the nearest restaurants, offering both white sand beaches perfect for relaxation and rocky beaches that make for excellent snorkelling.

Food and drink

There is one restaurant at the hotel, which offers alfresco dining under a high thatched roof, serving an extensive and varied selection of Thai and international dishes. There's an excellent wine cellar, and the resident chef is on hand to prepare meals to your tastes.

The pool bar serves snacks and drinks, while the Sunset Bar, overlooking the west beach, is the spot to visit for a sundowner while watching stunning sunsets and enjoying live entertainment.

Families

While geared more toward adults, the resort does feature a children's pool, and babysitting can be arranged upon request.

Facilities and activities

While most rooms have a private pool, the resort's infinity pool has views out over the beach and sea beyond. For those looking to do more than simply relax and soak up the sun, snorkelling and kayaking are free of charge, while windsurfing and sailing are also available at an additional cost.
