Places to visit in Borneo

Proboscis monkeys, Kota Kinabalu
As one of the orangutan’s few remaining natural refuges, rainforest-covered Borneo is a boon for any wildlife-focused trip. As you travel by boat along the Kinabatangan River you have the opportunity to glimpse this critically endangered species swinging from the trees above, and you can add in a visit to the Sepilok’s orangutan sanctuary. Moving to the middle of the island, you can trek to hidden caves in Mulu National Park, and northwestern Danum Valley offers another setting for spotting orangutan. In the cities of Kota Kinabalu and Kuching you can sample street food as you tour the markets.

Our Borneo specialists, who’ve experienced the island first-hand, can help you choose where to visit, from the primary forests to the little-visited, coast-hugging Tanjung Datu National Park.
