On arrival in Sydney you will be transferred by private vehicle to your downtown accommodation. The remainder of the day is free to relax. Spend today at leisure exploring the highlights of Sydney - perhaps taking in a cruise on the harbour, a tour of the Sydney Opera House or even a walk over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Time to speak your best surfer lingo, put on your flip flops and catch the ferry to Manly Beach for a surfing or body boarding lesson. When the Tasman Sea has finished with you, head back into the city to the Sydney Aquarium in Darling Harbour.

Just after Sydney's western suburbs peter out, the Blue Mountains rear up to over 1000m, forming chasms and sheer rock walls. This beautiful setting is a great place to spot Aussie wildlife so keep an eye out for kangaroos and koalas.

You will make your way to the airport this morning in time for your flight to Brisbane. This subtropical city has skyscrapers bordering one bank of the river and a city beach and lagoon on the other - it's the sort of thing every city should have.

Enjoy a day of fun around Brisbane. You could visit Australia Zoo, run by the family of the late Steve Irwin, to see all the favourite Australian animals in one place, or one of the theme parks within easy reach.

Day 8 The Sunshine Coast

Leave Brisbane and head north to Noosa. The easy two hour drive goes via the Glasshouse Mountains, volcanic plugs that jut hundreds of metres into the sky. Noosa is at the heart of the Sunshine Coast and it's time to hit the beach again, and these ones are very pretty.

A difficult choice today: beach or pool. Both are inviting, both good for a refreshing dip. Perhaps the beach in the morning to catch the early sun, then back to the pool in the afternoon.

The Sunshine Coast

Fraser Island is the world's largest sand island, and makes a great adventure. The seas around the island are filled with sharks and all sorts of vicious sea creatures, but the freshwater lakes of the island have perfect sandy beaches and no such dangers. This 4x4 day trip will introduce you to the natural attractions and give you a good chance to spot wild dingoes.

This morning you will depart the Sunshine Coast and drive back to Brisbane Airport in time for your flight to Cairns in Tropical North Queensland. Travel north on to Port Douglas.

Port Douglas is an ideal jumping off place for the Great Barrier Reef, and you can get to the outer reef easily. Here the family will love spotting Nemo and the other marine life, either with mask and snorkel, or for those that don't like getting their hair wet, from a glass bottomed boat.

The second incredible wildlife experience up here is the Daintree Rainforest. At 180 million years old, the forest is one of the most ancient on Earth, and a peaceful, beautiful place full of bird song. Of course there are also crocs lurking in every river to keep an eye out for too.

Enjoy the final day strolling along 7 Mile Beach or explore the shops and galleries of Macrossan Street, which is a perfect place to escape the tropical heat.
