Historic battlefield sites are a draw for many people, especially those who enjoy their history. We list five famous battlefield sites from around the world.

Many of the countries which Audley operate in also have some of the world's most famous battlefield sites. Places like Rorke’s Drift in South Africa, made famous during the Zulu Wars, to more recent conflicts like those of World War Two and the Battle of Stalingrad in Russia.
Borodino, near Moscow, Russia
The battle at Borodino (about 100 km (62 miles) from Moscow) was fought in 1812 and was the last offensive action fought by Napoleon in Russia. The casualty rate was staggering with 28,000 French and 38,000 Russians killed.
El Alamein was where the British, under General Montgomery, fought Rommel’s Afrika Korps during World War Two. It was here in 1942 that the German advance across the continent halted, leading to their eventual surrender.
The Anglo-Zulu War was fought in 1879 between the British Empire and the Zulu Empire. These two battles in particular were made famous by the films Zulu Dawn (1979) and Zulu (1964).
The Battle of Khe Sanh (not far from Hue), was fought in 1968 during the Vietnam War. It was one of the most costly battles of the entire war for the Americans, with 205 killed and 1,668 wounded.
Fought in 1942, during Wold War Two, the Battle of Stalingrad has been seen by many as a turning point which spelt the end of the German ambitions to conquer Russia.
