Places to visit in Laos

Bridge over the Song River
Laos is Indochina’s least-developed country, with many parts rarely seeing visitors. Our specialists have uncovered the best places to go in this timeless place and can help tailor a trip to your interests.

In Luang Prabang you can watch a dawn procession of saffron-robed monks as they collect alms down the narrow streets. The town itself is UNESCO protected and home to more than 30 gilded temples. To the southeast lies the Plain of Jars, some 300 man-height stone urns strewn across the hills, their origins unknown. At the other end of the country, at Wat Phou just outside Champasak, stone temples lie crumbling as nature reclaims them.

Vientiane, the capital of Laos, shows signs of its French colonial past through its architecture. Then there’s the limestone-karst scenery around Vang Vieng, which you can explore by foot, kayak or bicycle.
