Enjoy a visit to Otavalo market, one of South America's most colourful. Explore this region further, take a walk around a volcanic crater lake or take a ride on a great little train journey.
Day 5 The Galapagos Islands
Travel back to Quito this morning in time to take your flight to the Galapagos Islands. On arrival you will be met and taken to your awaiting vessel before setting sail to your first site of interest.
Day 6 The Galapagos Islands
Today you'll wake up in Darwin Bay on Genovesa Island, one of the most northerly islands in the archipelago. On a guided trail through mangroves, you'll have the chance to spot Nazca boobies, swallow-tailed gulls, and red-footed boobies. Look out for sea lions playing in tide pools. In the afternoon, you'll climb up the island's steep rock face via the Prince Phillip Steps. From here, you'll have a great panorama over the entire island and its palo santo forests. You may also catch sight of the rare short-eared lava owl.
Day 7 The Galapagos Islands
Today you may disembark at the islet of Sombrero Chino (China Hat) off the coast of Santiago Island - the islet's distinctive summit gives it its name. Admire the geology of this part of the Galapagos, which includes lava tubes and lava flows formed under the sea. In the afternoon, you'll visit Mosquera Islet, located between Baltra and North Seymour. Its white-sand beaches are usually crowded with sea lions.
Day 8 The Galapagos Islands
This morning you'll visit Cerro Brujo (Witch Hill) on the coast of San Cristóbal Island. Sea lions are usually found lounging on the beaches. It's a great spot for snorkeling, with rainbow corals, many tropical fish and sea turtles. The afternoon brings yet more sea lions. Lobos Island is crowded with noisy, energetic colonies.
