The Raja Foundation in action

Responsible travel in the Indian Subcontinent

Audley has been supporting carbon reduction projects through Friends of Conservation since 2005 and in addition to this each individual department also supports a charity of their choice with a yearly financial donation.

This charity is one that is close to their hearts and the team often chooses to fundraise to add to this amount. Here in the Indian Subcontinent Department we have researched many different charities and after much discussion have elected to support ‘‘The Raja Foundation’.

In addition to this all itineraries that visit certain National Parks in India include a £15 per person donation to TOFT (Travel Operators for Tigers).

The Raja Foundation

The Raja Foundation was set up in 2001 by Father Raja Reddy with the vision to provide comprehensive support, protection and care to the poor and needy in society.

The foundation is situated in the state of Andhra Pradesh and at present the foundation has a purpose built ‘Daddy Home’ which is the home to around 156 orphans, 26 of whom are suffering from HIV. There are also a further 27 elderly residents who were found living on the streets and there is a newly built school which has 290 pupils.

The ‘Daddy Home’ is an integrated Home for all the people to live together like one large family giving them the chance to eat, play, be happy and share their problems of life.

Further to this, the foundation has a number of different initiatives that it is currently working on to support the lives of the poor which includes: a mobile health clinic that carries out free blood tests and raises awareness of HIV and pupils are also sent to schools for education with the aim to help stop the spread of child labour.

The mission of the Foundation is to strive to support the most helpless human beings through complete care and services. It is determined to combine care, protection, rehabilitation support with quality social service initiatives to serve helpless children and elders.

Audley and the Raja Foundation

This year our donation will go towards supporting the food that is needed to feed all those that live in the ‘Daddy Home’ at the foundation. Rice is an integral part of the Indian diet and provides those living in the home a chance to have regular and nutritional meals.

The Raja Foundation is located in Mylavaram, which is situated around 4 hours from Hyderabad. Visitors and volunteers are welcome and if you are particularly interested in visiting then we are more than happy to arrange this on your behalf.
