The Lodge at Big Falls

The Lodge at Big Falls is a friendly family run property located on the Rio Grande in Toledo just 40 minutes from Punta Gorda airport.

The river winds around the hotel and each room looks down on its banks. There are six cabanas simply decorated with an en suite shower room. The main reception at the lodge has internet access and a telephone. There is a large pool in the extensive grounds of the lodge and the hotel has kayaks and rubber tubes for use on the river.

There is a restaurant with a chef serving up tasty local dishes for lunch and dinner. This is a perfect place to base yourself for good birdwatching in the mornings, exploring the small Mayan villages of the Toledo District, the Rio Blanco Waterfalls, taking a chocolate tour, snorkelling in the Port Honduras Marine Reserve and visiting the local Maya ruins such as Lubaantun, where the crystal skull was discovered and Nim Li Punit.

Breakfast and lunches are served à la carte and a set three-course dinner is offered in the evening.
