Milford Sound is breathtaking, particularly when the water is still and reflects the surrounding mountains. Waterfalls plunge into the water, hidden by dramatic cliff edges. Look out for sea lions sunbathing on the rocks and if you're lucky you may even catch sight of the elusive penguins. The overnight cruise on Milford Sound gives the best opportunities for photography, enabling passengers to capture the evening and morning light. There aren't any professional photographers on board but it's an ideal trip for capturing some beautiful photographs.

Evening boat ride to the ghats, Varanasi, northern India

Less than a two hour flight from Delhi, the holy city of Varanasi has been a pilgrimage site for thousands of years. The best way to appreciate and absorb the spirituality is from a boat on the river Ganges; watching people’s daily activities; families bathing, ceremonial offerings being given to the river as well as the funeral pyres and the evening aarti. You do need to be careful and respectful when taking photographs here, but the evening light is perfect for photos of the ghats, the temples and architecture as well as all the flickering lamps floating downstream and the sunsets.
