Trekking through the Sacred Valley

A new trek option arrives in Peru this autumn. It looks to be an exciting choice for those wanting to enjoy not only spectacular Andean scenery but also to gain a deeper cultural insight into one of the beautiful valleys surrounding Machu Picchu.

It has been possible to do a lodge-based trek to Machu Picchu for a number of years, however, the opening of this new trekking route, which passes through different areas, gives you the chance to experience the lesser-visited Lares Valley, which was previously only accessible via camping-based treks. In Lares you can observe traditional weaving communities in colourful dress, meet local farmers herding alpacas and enjoy remote picnic lunches by turquoise glacier lakes, before spending the night in cosy lodges with all the creature comforts you require after a day’s trekking.

All itineraries finish with a night in the town of Machu Picchu and a guided tour of the World Heritage Site the following day.
