Footsteps Across The Delta
Footsteps Across The Delta, Shinde Concession, Botswana
Footsteps Across the Delta is a special program which maintains all the comforts associated with the classic tented safaris of the early 20th century and allows for a first hand, interpretative bush experience. Here the emphasis is placed on learning and better understanding the secrets of the Okavango Delta.
On arrival to the Shinde Concession, a short journey by vehicle may lead to a motor boat (dependent on the season or where the camp has been based) to continue into the remote areas of the Okavango. There you will find a small private camp where staff are waiting with refreshing drinks for a maximum of only six guests.
Your host has been active in guiding and conservation in the Okavango for several years. He will brief you on the next day's walking, mokoro excursions and game viewing. As much of the safari is on foot or by mokoro, the territory that you tread does not have any roads or tracks, so your safari is truly off the beaten track. The tiny camp changes from one stunning location to another every two years, always remaining rustic and authentic but perfectly comfortable.
Accommodation is in compact twin bedded, insect proof fly tents with sewn in floors. Each tent has its own adjacent enclosed bucket shower and bathroom facility. There is a flush toilet, hand basins are filled throughout the day and the bucket shower is topped up with hot water on request. A private bath tub enclosed in canvas walls and set away in the bushes can also be arranged, in the day or at night beneath the stars.
The tents are set apart from the open sided dining tent where you can sit and eat your evening dinner, afterwards sojourning to the blazing fire for drinks before settling down for the night. The present site has a great little viewing point where seats are perched on top of an old termite mound for views across the lake.

Camp Okavango consists of open sided thatched buildings with a large spacious lounge adjoining the bar. All eleven spacious rooms are on raised wooden platforms with a front deck overlooking the reeds of the Delta. This camp offers year-round water activities.
Set in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta and surrounded by clear waterways teeming with birdlife and game, Shinde boasts a real air of elegance and classic safari charm. The camp itself sits on a vast palm island and offers breath-taking views across the delta.
