Hedgerow House B&B
Set in landscaped gardens in the town of Ganges on Salt Spring Island, Hedgerow House B&B has a tranquil setting but is just a short walk from the heart of town with its galleries, cafes, scenic waterfront and bustling Saturday market.
With friendly owners and just three guest rooms, it offers a personal stay and the comfortable lounge and breakfast room feel like a family home. The rooms are individually decorated in a snug and inviting cottage-like style. All have private bathrooms with heated floors and plush towels and bathrobes.
Your hosts, Peter and Jayne, serve three-course breakfasts each morning that showcase the abundance of the island’s organic produce, including seasonal fruit, local eggs and farm-produced sausages and bacon.
There's plenty to do in the local area but you could just sit on the sunny patios and porches, relax in the sauna or hot tub, join a yoga class in the on-site studio or have an in-room massage. In addition, the solar hot water system, electric vehicle charging station and comprehensive recycling ensure the property has some of the highest eco-friendly credentials.
The guesthouse has three rooms all individually decorated in an inviting, homely style. Decor is contemporary but snug with faux-fur blankets, elegant furniture, soft lighting and subtle florals. The Garden Room has a cottage-like feel with a private entrance and a large garden patio, while the Balcony Room has a fireplace and French doors leading to a private balcony with a table and chairs. All rooms have pillow-top beds, Egyptian cotton linens, flat-screen televisions with DVD players, and free Wi-Fi, while the en suite bathrooms have large showers and fluffy gowns.
Hedgerow House B&B is located in Ganges, the main village on Salt Spring Island. It's a ten-minute stroll to the heart of town and the waterfront where you'll find a choice of cafes, shops and galleries as well as a market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The island can be reached by BC Ferries from Tsawwassen in 90 minutes and is also served by float plane.
Food and Drink
Breakfast is served around a communal table in the open kitchen and varies depending on the season. The island is known for its abundance of craft food producers and the three-course breakfast includes locally-roasted coffee, organic eggs and bacon, artisan breads and herbs, fruit and vegetables from the guesthouse garden. Peter and Jayne are happy to recommend local cafes or restaurants for lunch and dinner.
Facilities and Activities
Jayne is a yoga instructor and there is a yoga studio on site with regular weekly classes. There is also an infra-red sauna in the garden pavilion, a hot tub, and in-room massage treatments can be arranged.
A delightful home away from home, Hedgerow House is an oasis of calm on Salt Spring Island. The three-course breakfasts here rival even the best restaurants, and are a great start to any day exploring the island.
