Situated on the edge of Baie-Saint-Paul, this modern hotel is made up of five pavilions inspired stylistically by the traditional farm buildings of the Charlevoix region, with views across the open farmland to the sea. Each room has wooden floors, contemporary furnishings, flatscreen TVs and iPod docks. The hotel is located on a working farm and runs farmers’ markets during the summer months (June to September), while its two restaurants offer fresh, seasonal, farm-to-fork food. It boasts a spa with a large hot tub and a heated outdoor pool, and offers easy access to the Charlevoix scenic train for those wishing to explore the local area.
Rooms are contemporary in design with modern functional lines and soft, luxurious bedding. They have a clean, Scandinavian feel to them and features include wooden floors and stand-alone bath tubs. Mod-cons include flatscreen TVs and iPod docks. With large windows, all rooms feel spacious and light. They have views out over the hotel’s working farm and the fields beyond.
An hour’s drive from Québec City, this hotel sits on the outskirts of Baie-Saint-Paul and is only a five-minute walk from the heart of the town and its train station. The property has ample parking and sits within its own grounds, looking out over fields to the coast beyond. Good local restaurants, shops and art galleries are all accessible on foot.
Food and Drink
Les Labours serves a breakfast buffet starring fresh produce from the hotel’s farm from 7am to 10:30am, and then brunch from 11am to 1:30pm. For dinner, Les Labours offers both a set and an à la carte menu which feature seasonal Canadian dishes. Le Bercail offers heartier meals (including pizza and tapas) and is open from 11:30 am daily until late.
The hotel has an allocated indoor play space for children, with toys and books available for them to use. Children’s meals are served in Le Bercail restaurant. With farm animals outside, plenty of outdoor space, a heated outdoor pool in the summer and an ice-rink in the winter, there’s plenty for families to do together. The Nordic Spa allows entrance to children over the age of 13.
Facilities and Activities
The hotel has facilities to suit a range of interests, including a games room, a heated outdoor pool (open from mid-June to mid-September), a fully equipped gym, a spa (the Nordic Spa) and a large ice skating rink in winter. There are also short walks around the hotel’s herb garden, animal paddocks and fields.
The hotel’s restaurants are wheelchair-accessible but please note that the rooms are located in a separate building and there are no lifts.
Environmental and Social Responsibility
The hotel takes a responsible and positive attitude to sustainability and the environment. It makes an effort to reclaim storm water, plant trees, and irrigate gardens using local water sources. The hotel has beehives within its grounds and uses the work and services of local artists and suppliers wherever possible.
We like that this hotel is located on a working farm, with its own animals and farmers’ market, and is yet only a short walk away from the cafes and art galleries of Baie-Saint-Paul. It’s a modern and comfortable place to stay, but you still feel very much embedded in the rural character of the Charlevoix region.
