Manoir Belle Plage

The Gaspé Peninsula, Canada

Set between the sea and mountains in Carleton-sur-Mer, a small town on the southern shore of the Gaspé Peninsula, the Manoir Belle Plage is a family-run hotel offering a choice of comfortable rooms. The hotel overlooks Chaleur Bay, a scenic spot known for its warm waters, red cliffs and water sports.

The Comeau family have been welcoming guests to their hotel for over 40 years and pride themselves on their personal service. Staff are eager to assist with planning local activities and can offer recommendations for places to visit in the area.

The 39 rooms vary from small Economy rooms to larger Premier and Prestige suites and a choice of four apartments in a nearby house. The decor is comfortable and modern with a subtle nautical theme, and each room has work by a local artist and some hand-crafted items.

The hotel restaurant, Le Courlieu, is a popular local choice with a menu featuring a range of fish and seafood dishes as well as local meats. There's a small gym and a playground on site, a hot tub and a beach and boardwalk nearby.

Rooms

Manoir Belle Plage has a good choice of rooms from the simple Economy Rooms to larger Premium and Prestige Rooms which offer mountain or sea views. All are tastefully decorated in a corporate, international style tempered by the inclusion of work by a Gaspé Peninsula artist and a made-to-measure craft item. The Prestige Loft Rooms feel particularly spacious with their high ceilings. All rooms have Wi-Fi, cable TV, air conditioning and modern bathrooms. Adjacent to the hotel is Cullen House which has four apartments, each with a kitchen and more traditional decor.

Location

Set in Carleton-sur-Mer on the southern shore of Québec's Gaspé Peninsula, the hotel is just across the road from the calm waters of Chaleur Bay and backed by forested mountains. The region has a rich heritage with First Nation, Acadian, Basque, Irish and Jersey Island influences shaping its culture, music and food.

Food and drink

The hotel restaurant, Le Courlieu, has large windows overlooking the sea. It is open for breakfast and dinner in the summer months and dinner only in winter. Ingredients are sourced locally from marine, farm and forest producers and the menu has a focus on fish and seafood as well as local meats. Breakfast is a generous buffet of hot and cold items. There is also a variety of cafés and restaurants in Carleton-sur-Mer should you wish to dine elsewhere.

Facilities and activities

Although the facilities at the hotel are limited to a small gym and a hot tub, it is right across the road from the beach. Diving, sailing and kayaking are all available locally, as well as golf and a good network of walking and cycling trails.
