Tweedsmuir Park Lodge

Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is a warm, family style lodge with all the comforts of home and is located in the Bella Coola Valley on the edge of the Great Bear Rainforest. This historic lodge is nestled within the Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, the largest protected park in British Columbia, 70 kilometres by road from Bella Coola Harbour. The lodge is remotely situated on 60 acres of wilderness land. Originally built in 1929 as a hunting lodge, it was rebuilt in 1952 to accommodate those seeking out a more eco-friendly adventure.

The lodge is well known for its warm, family style environment where guests can relax in the great lounge in front of one of the two huge fireplaces, leather sofas and piano. There are 10 chalets and cabins in total, most of which have queen beds and log burning stoves. The cabins range from the simple 'fisherman's cottages' to the more luxuriously-finished chalets that have wonderful views and a really homely feel to them. All guests can make use of the new spa facility (treatments must be booked in advance) and soak in the outdoor hot tub after a big day of Bella Coola adventures. Then retire to the lodge deck to sip a drink before dinner, where you can peacefully enjoy glimpses of the wildlife and breathtaking mountain views of the 8,000-foot rock peak aptly named Mount Stupendous.

The lodge borders the Atnarko and Bella Coola rivers, which are renowned for fly-fishing, and in the autumn grizzly bears come down to feast on the spawning salmon. The lodge is right in the middle of what is one of the healthiest bear habitats in the world and often the bears can be seen wandering past the lodge — sometimes they can even be seen napping on the lawn! The Bella Coola valley is made up of a rich and diverse mosaic of culture, which includes the Nuxalk First Nations, descendants of Norwegian settlers, and various other ethnic blends. The surrounding environment is stunning. Rising above the valley floor are the majestic Coast Mountains, to the west is the largest fjord system in the Americas, and to the east the high Chilcotin Plateau. It is a bio-diverse and spectacular wilderness, home to the totemic wildlife of the Great Bear Rainforest.
