Northern Lights Resort & Spa is located in the open countryside of the Yukon River valley. Set against the backdrop of the McClintock Mountains and surrounded by pine forests, the property comprises cosy log cabins and glass chalets connected by wooden pathways to a main lodge. Far away from light pollution, Northern Lights has an impressive view of the aurora borealis during the autumn and winter, as well as of the valley itself.
Northern Lights’ motto is, ‘Relax, enjoy, feel good’, and hosts Renate and Wolfgang offer a stay focused on wellbeing and indulgence. This is a B&B where guests can also meet for lunch and dinner in the main lodge, enjoy a massage in the small spa, or soak up the view in the outdoor Jacuzzi. The communal tepee is set up for aurora viewings and has a fire inside to warm you.

Rooms
Both the log cabins and the new hand-built Aurora Glass Chalets are designed for double occupancy and come with a kitchenette and en suite bathroom, as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities, Wi-Fi and satellite TV. The Glass Chalets have cosy recliner chairs for optimal aurora viewing through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and the hot-water radiant heating system keeps them warm in even the coldest outside temperatures. Made from locally grown timber, the log cabins offer an authentic Yukon experience with snug seating areas and a fireplace.
Location
Located on a secluded private site of 160 acres, Northern Lights Resort & Spa offers dramatic views of the aurora. Yet, at 20 minutes’ drive south of Whitehorse, Yukon’s capital, it’s far from isolated. The city’s restaurants, shops, bars and galleries — as well as its river and trails — are within easy reach.
Food and drink
Meals are served in the main lodge. Breakfast is European-style — continental or cooked — while fresh sandwiches or soup can be provided at lunchtime. Dinners are all part of the experience, with you and your fellow guests coming together at the family table next to the fireplace. Meals are prepared by a professional chef with ingredients sourced locally. The lodge can cater for dietary needs.
Families
The log cabins are designed for two people but a small bed can be added for a child of up to 12 years upon request and for an additional fee (summer bookings only — children of up to three years stay free of charge). Children of all ages are welcome, but the lodge asks that they’re supervised at all times.
Facilities and activities
The main lodge houses a Finnish sauna, infrared sauna, small gym with basic equipment, yoga mats, and showers with towels available for your use. Host Renate offers several massage options including aromatherapy, dry brush, hot stone or foot massages. You can join local guides for a variety of outdoor activities, including dog sledding, snowshoeing and hiking.
Accessibility
Although challenging, wheelchair access is possible between your cabin and the main lodge via the wooden pathways. However, many of the resort’s amenities are situated downstairs in the main lodge, making them inaccessible to those with mobility concerns.
Environmental and social responsibility
Renate and Wolfgang built the log cabins by hand using wood from the Douglas fir trees that encircle the property. Their use of local ingredients and home-grown organic herbs for meals served at the resort is a testament to the lushness of the area and the quality of the produce found there.
