The Bivou is an intimate, traditionally styled guesthouse located in a local village away from bustling Lijiang town.
It has a mixture of rooms clustered around two courtyards, and on a good day Snow Dragon Mountain can be seen in the distance. We highly recommend the food here — homemade cakes and Chinese tea can also be enjoyed while soaking up the rich natural landscapes of this region.
OUR OPINION:
The Bivou’s location in Shuhe preserves much of the original tranquillity which first enticed visitors to the region, making it one of our top choices in this region. We like the high standard of service and tastefully designed rooms, and we highly recommend the delicious cake served daily at the café.

Rooms
The Bivou has two courtyards: the Farm Yard and the Garden Yard. Standard and Deluxe rooms are set around each of these yards, with twin and double occupancy options. There's also a Family Suite looking onto the Farm Yard. All rooms have a minimal classic decor and offer modern facilities, including Wi-Fi, televisions and en suite showers.
Location
The Bivou is situated 4 km (2.5 miles) from Lijiang old town in the village of Shuhe. As Lijiang has seen a lot of development in recent years, this boutique property makes for a more tranquil option. The pretty village is steeped in history and the hotel is located just off the village square, so you can easily head out to explore the cobbled streets.
Food and drink
The on-site café, Bivybistro, serves light meals and refreshments. Here you can enjoy locally produced dishes while looking out over the nearby farm plots, which are tended daily by local villagers.
Families
The Family Farm Yard Suite comfortably sleeps a small family, featuring two double beds and a single bed. The beautiful surroundings and peaceful environment make it a lovely area for families to relax and unwind after a busy day sightseeing.

When you're not relaxing in the property's café and soaking up your countryside surroundings, the main focus of your stay here will be on exploring the local Naxi minority culture. Strolling the village's narrow, stream-lined streets, you'll pass local people going about their day and can admire traditional Naxi architecture.
Environmental and social responsibility
The Bivou work closely with the local minority villagers to ensure their philosophy of sustainability is continued. Ancient building techniques were used to insulate the property's walls, and the harvest from its organic garden goes straight from ground to kitchen.
