A stone's throw from Villa de Leyva's gaping-wide Plaza Mayor, Casa Terra is a seven-room property built — in keeping with the entire town — in a Spanish colonial style. Whitewashed walls and wooden balustrades look onto an elegant private patio and grassy, cactus-and-flower-filled gardens with views of Villa de Leyva's surrounding hills.
Rooms are decorated individually with plush, luxurious fabrics and more unusual additions such as sheepskin or feather-trimmed throws. There's no restaurant, but breakfast is included in your stay and served alfresco on the patio by a stone fountain. You can expect a feast of local produce, freshly squeezed juices, and fruit (presented on eye-catching painted crockery).
OUR OPINION:
For us, this is definitely the best place to stay in Villa de Leyva thanks to its well-designed rooms, warm service, and the delicious breakfasts served in the peaceful courtyard.

Rooms
The seven rooms accommodate one or two people, with some larger suites. Conceived by a Bogotá-based interior designer, they're decorated with Colombian artwork, such as indigenous sculptures and paintings. The suites look onto the property's gardens, and some have their own balcony. All rooms have showers, while only one room (the Leyva Room) has a bathtub. All rooms have TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi. There are also all kinds of personal touches — on chillier nights, you might find a hot-water bottle tucked between your sheets. All rooms, and the entire property, are non-smoking.
Location
The hotel is just a few steps from Villa de Leyva's locus, Plaza Mayor, making it one of the most central properties in the town. It's also within easy walking distance of good local restaurants, craft shops, and all of the town's principal sights, including some fine early Baroque churches.
Food and drink
Breakfast is a table-service affair, served daily from 8.30am to 10am at the small cluster of tables on the patio's terrace. It consists of local ham, cheese, eggs, fresh fruit and tea and coffee. The hotel has no restaurant for lunch or evening meals, but it's within walking distance of many good local eateries serving both traditional Colombian and international cuisine.
Families
Extra beds can be added into some of the suite rooms, and cots for infants are also available upon request.
Facilities and activities
The gardens here are a particular asset: they're often brimming with flowers and cacti and have hummingbird feeders. The hotel will lend you bicycles for exploring Villa de Leyva, and there's a laundry service.
