The Four Seasons Resort

Northern Pacific Coast, Costa Rica

Situated in an untouched hideaway on the Guanacaste coast, the Four Seasons was Costa Rica's first luxury resort. There are four different restaurants within the resort offering varied and delicious dining options. The three swimming pools are all set in lush tropical gardens with the main swimming pool located in the middle of the resort. The two smaller pools overlook two different beaches, Blanca Bay (the activities beach) and Playa Virador (the quiet beach).

Other facilities include a modern fitness facility, luxury spa and an Arnold Palmer-designed 18-hole golf course.

OUR OPINION:

One of Costa Rica's most luxurious and exclusive resorts, the hotel offers everything you would expect from the Four Seasons chain. The beaches in this area are beautiful, and there is an 18-hole championship golf course for golf fans.

Guest rooms are modernistic in design with stone flooring, and elegant hardwood furnishings from local sources to bring the jungle indoors. Each room comes with an outdoor terrace or balcony living area with peaceful views of the surrounding gardens or overlooking the waters of the bay. All guest rooms are able to accommodate both adults and children with a combination of two double beds or a king and single.

The multi-bedroom suites are the perfect home away from home for families and large groups, with fully furnished patios, a decadent living space and several suites that have private plunge pools.

Location

Situated on the northern Pacific Coast, on the stunning Peninsula Papagayo, the resort is rewarded the luxury of being surrounded by sandy beaches and the Pacific Ocean on one side and lush native jungle on the other. Food and drink

There is plenty of variety with four restaurants and two bars onsite, plus a range of dining experiences to be enjoyed by guests. The Añejo restaurant offers Latin inspired cuisine with tapas for sharing, lively music and delicious apéritifs. Pesce is the more refined dining option with a modern take on classic Italian dishes, served against the ocean backdrop. Bahia offers casual all-day dining, with choices varying from wood fired pizzas to freshly caught seafood. Nemare is the delicious option at the Papagayo golf clubhouse. They serve inventive dishes and craft cocktails all inspired by ‘smoke’.

The pool and beach bar, serves daily light snacks and tropical cocktails, best enjoyed with the setting sun. La Reserva specialises in Latin rums and gives guests the chance to work with the mixologists to discover their own signature dish.

Guests can also enjoy a romantic moon-lit dinner in the chef’s private herb garden, choosing either five or seven courses with exquisite wine pairings. One of the most special dining experiences focuses on the art of ceviche. Guests learn how to create the perfect ceviche in this beachside class, followed by a traditional Latin American feast cooked by the chef.

There are also tasting sessions and classes for chocolate lovers, rum aficionados and stargazers.
