Iberostar Grand Hotel
Originally built as a hotel in the 1930s, the building was abandoned in the 1990s during Cuba's worst economic crisis. Today it has been completely rebuilt, but still retains its original façade, which has been carefully restored to ensure it blends in seamlessly with the surrounding architecture. Its rooms span several floors and surround a covered interior courtyard, while the hallways are attractively decorated with local photography in a nod to the property's heritage. The hotel welcomes those who are aged over 15 and the service has a personal touch, with guests greeted warmly by staff on arrival with a refreshing cocktail and cooling towel.

The hotel features spacious, air-conditioned rooms and a handful of Junior Suites, all of which are well furnished with large double beds, a satellite TV, mini bar, safe and an iPod dock. Some also enjoy a small terrace with views of the plaza (though these are best avoided for light sleepers as it can be noisy). Junior Suites are slightly larger and feature walk-in closets, as well as a bath tub in addition to the shower.
The Iberostar is well located on Plaza San Marti near the colonial centre of Trinidad - all the main attractions are just a short walk away, and the bars, restaurants and shops of Calle Cristo are also within easy reach.
Food and Drink
An international buffet breakfast is included and the food is generally of a high standard. All food is served in the main restaurant, with lunch and dinner also available here. A gourmet restaurant also opens for evening meals only, and there are two bars serving a variety of beverages.
The hotel only accommodates over 15s.
Facilities and Activities
One of the hotel's bars occasionally hosts live music nights. The hotel also features a billiards room and a gift shop selling Cuban cigars. There's a currency exchange on site, and staff are happy to assist in recommendations and reservations of restaurants or tourist sites.
The Iberostar Grand is one of the best hotels in the country. We love its colonial character, central location and generally high standards of food and service - something that can be difficult to find in Cuba.

The compact colonial centre of Trinidad is one of the most sublime in Latin America. The cobbled streets, terracotta rooftops and pastel coloured houses are easily explored in a morning when the light is good for photography and the temperature is still comfortable.
