An imposing neo-Renaissance mansion set in generous grounds in the heart of the Dordogne countryside, Château de Monrecour dates back to the 15th century but was largely rebuilt in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its turreted towers and grand proportions are matched by a relaxed atmosphere, personal service and fine food. A modern annex houses additional rooms and two swimming pools sit in the gardens.

Inside the main chateau are ten guest rooms decorated with touches of period style such as exposed wooden beams, terracotta tiles and antique furnishings. The 21 rooms in the newly built annex have more modern decor, yet are still in keeping with regional style. All rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi and air conditioning, and there are many options offering additional space for families who wish to stay together.

The hotel restaurant, La Table de Monrecour, offers gastronomic and bistro-style dishes typical of the region for both lunch and dinner. Along with the swimming pools, the chateau also has a library, table tennis and pétanque set (similar to bowls), and you may see hot air balloons taking off from the generous grounds. Château de Beynac is just a ten-minute drive away.

Rooms

The 10 rooms in the original chateau are decorated in traditional period style, some with four-poster beds, original fireplaces and antique furniture. The rooms differ across the three categories: Charme, Luxe and Family Charme, but all have modern amenities such as Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Some also offer views of Château de Beynac and the Marqueyssac gardens in the distance. The other 21 rooms are located in the newly built annex that surrounds the swimming pool. These rooms are decorated in the style of the region with stone walls, terracotta tiles or exposed wood beams but with crisp modern furnishing, showers and sometimes a bath.

Location

Château de Monrecour is just a five-minute drive from Beynac village, 20 minutes from Sarlat-la-Canéda and 40 minutes from the prehistoric caves at Lascaux IV. The nearest town is the sleepy village of Saint-Vincent-de-Cosse which is just a five-minute walk away.

Food and drink

La Table de Monrecour serves refined traditional French cuisine with modern finesse as well as more everyday light meals in the style of a local bistro for both lunch and dinner. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating with views of the grounds. Breakfast is served in the grand ballroom in cooler weather and on the terrace in warmer months.

Facilities and activities

In addition to the large swimming pool, there’s a second smaller pool and two paddling pools so children can swim separately. Château de Monrecour also has extensive parklands with a variety of walking trails, and bicycles are available to rent from the hotel reception.
