La Bastide de Marie
Set in an old stone farmhouse, La Bastide de Marie feels like staying in an elegant Provençal home with excellent service. Originally a farm dating back to the 18th century, this property is in the heart of the countryside surrounded by olive trees, vines, lavender bushes and a lovely terrace with creeping vines and wisteria where you can enjoy dinner or an aperitif.
Its location in the village of Ménerbes is ideal for exploring Provence, with surrounding villages just a short drive away and Avignon reachable by taxi within an hour. Emanating classic elegance, the rooms at La Bastide de Marie are just as peaceful and warm as the property itself, each room representing a particular shade and style of the region, such as ‘mimosa yellow’ and ‘honey orange’. The swimming pool is a beautiful feature as it wraps and curves around the rock in the terraced garden.

Each room here is well-appointed and decorated in keeping with the themes of the region. Varying in sizes, the rooms evoke the feeling of a traditional Provençal home with furnishings such as four-poster beds, claw-foot bathtubs, canopies, heavy stone walls and terracotta tiles. From your window you can look out over the vineyards, gardens or patio, and you can make use of modern amenities including Wi-Fi and air conditioning.
La Bastide de Marie is well-situated in the heart of Provence. The village of Ménerbes is approximately five minutes away by taxi, or you can travel to nearby villages such as Bonnieux which is about 15 minutes away. Both have the feel of traditional Provençal villages, with their streets lined with little shops and restaurants. You can also choose to journey further afield to Avignon, approximately an hour away by car, where the nearest train station is located.
Food and drink
You can choose to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in the low-beamed dining room which features stone walls. Alternatively, sit out on the terrace surrounded by vineyards. Afternoon tea can be served beside the pool or in the shade of the garden. Although you can venture to one of the nearby towns for dinner, most guests prefer to eat in.
Facilities and activities
There's plenty to do to fill your time here, whether you choose to take a swim in the heated outdoor pool, book a massage, rent an electric bicycle to explore the area, or take part in one of the wine tastings in the hotel’s wine cellar.
We love this property for its countryside location and its traditional stone building which has been tastefully restored inside. Most of all, we like its picturesque terrace and restaurant.
