Chromata Hotel

Chromata Hotel

Santorini, Greece

An unassuming white sign announces Chromata from the main walkway through the town of Imerovigli. The sign beckons guests down the stairs into the cliffside of the caldera where a small reception room welcomes guests. From the little reception, the hotel is spread across a hillside connected by walkways and stairways leading between the rooms, pool and restaurants, all overlooking the sea far below.

The 26 rooms and suites of the hotel are spread through this compact jumble over several different levels. Each room has a private terrace and sea views, and the stark white interiors are modern and minimalist, typical of local style yet with all modern conveniences.

Descending the stone stairs further, guests reach the pool and dining areas of the hotel. The pool, while small, boasts an infinity edge overlooking the sea and is well serviced by a poolside champagne bar. Breakfast is served in an area behind the pool which enjoys the same sweeping views. The Chroma restaurant is also here and serves a wide-ranging Mediterranean menu. There is also a sushi restaurant at the hotel.

OUR OPINION:

We like Chromata for its intimate, boutique style and its convenient location in Imerovigli, surrounded by the expansive views of the sea in front and the traditional jumble of whitewashed buildings all around.

Rooms

All of the 26 rooms and suites at Chromata offer views over the sea and Santorini’s caldera and each has an outdoor terrace. The decor is typical of Santorini cave-style hotels with bright white walls and crisp fabrics, windows at the front of the room only, and domed ceilings in both rooms and bathrooms. Lower room categories are on the small side, so guests looking for more space should think about upgrading. All rooms offer Wi-Fi and air conditioning.

Location

Chromata is located in the fashionable town of Imerovigli in the cliffside overlooking the sea and the caldera. The area of the caldera where the property is situated is just in front of the main square, so while the property itself is not accessible by car, the nearest area cars can reach is just a two-minute walk away. The town’s shops, bars and restaurants are also all within walking distance.

Food and drink

Breakfast is served in the mornings in a small dining area near the pool which overlooks the sea. Later in the day, lunch and dinner are served in the same area, and there is also a sushi restaurant serving fresh fish where seating is set up bar style, so everyone benefits from the views out to sea.

Facilities and activities

A small but scenically situated infinity pool is located on one of the lower levels of the hotel. A handful of plush sunloungers surround the small pool deck, while the infinity edge overlooks the sea.
