Change location
Open all year round, the Danieli is made up of three palaces. The first, Palazzo Dandolo, dates from the 14th century. It later expanded to include two further buildings: The Casanuova, erected in the 17th century, and The Excelsior, built in the 1930s. Each palazzo (palace) has its own unique style and decor relevant to the époque in which it was erected. As soon as you enter the property, or consider its prime location next to the Doge’s Palace, you instantly understand how important the Dandolo family were during the Republic. The rooms are large and lavish, with breathtaking paintings and frescoed ceilings.
The rooms are plush and tastefully decorated in the traditional Venetian style. Each room features views of either the Grand Canal, the tiled rooftops or gondola-lined side canals. Many have balconies yet still offer a retreat from any street noise and all have a TV, Wi-Fi and air-conditioning. The bathrooms are lined in the finest marble and have both a shower and a bath.
Staying at the Danieli allows quick access to the many vaporetto (water bus) routes to all corners of Venice as well as its own private water taxi entrance on the canal. The bustle and majesty of St Mark’s Square is around the corner, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars down every alleyway.
The terrace bar and restaurant at the top of the Dandolo Palace is the jewel of the hotel, and all guests from each palace will come here to have their breakfast as the views really are magnificent. The indoor and outdoor dining space has a mirrored ceiling and superb antique decoration. It’s also a popular spot for an evening cocktail and dinner.
