Day 1 International outbound flight

International outbound flight

Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Tokyo.

Day 2 Tokyo

On arrival into Japan, you will have the services of an airport representative whose main job is to help validate your rail pass before taking you over to the airport shuttle transfer. You will be transferred from the airport directly to your hotel. Spend the remainder of the day exploring Tokyo at leisure and acclimatising as a family to Japan.

Day 3 Tokyo

Use our free-time information for your first day of acclimatising to explore 'cool Tokyo', using Tokyo's excellent public transport. A PASMO pre-loaded travel card is included in the package. This is a great way to get your bearings around this sprawling capital and seeing the fun and cool side of this great city.

Day 4 Tokyo

Spend the day exploring Tokyo Disneyland, with tickets included. You may wish to change to DisneySea tickets instead which is a fun waterpark run by the company.

Day 5 Tokyo

The world's largest tower stands are 634m (2000 feet) and offers fantastic views over the capital. From here you can head over the Sumida River to the older part of the city, Asakusa, where you can enjoy a rickshaw ride (included) around Tokyo's largest temple, Sensoji. Afterwards, take the Tokyo metro or river cruise down to sumo town to see the sumo museum here. There are 3 bouts a year in Tokyo so it may even be possible to see these big wrestlers spar!

Day 6 Tokyo

Enjoy a fun experience taking part in one of Japan's quintessential martial arts - kendo. This shared experience will teach you the 'ways of the sword'. Children as young as five practise kendo so it's fun for everyone. Once finished here, head over to the man-made island of Odaiba out in Tokyo Bay. It has something for everyone, from science museums, walking robots, shopping, even a recontructed hot spring resort from the Edo era!

Day 7 Yudanaka

Tokyo , Yudanaka

Your first bullet train journey takes you up into the Japanese Alps and over to the small town of Yudanaka. It's here that you will enjoy your first stay at a traditional inn, or ryokan, with tatami rooms, futon and hot springs for those inclined, all part of this Japanese adventure! You will also get the chance to see the ubiquitous snow monkey (any time of the year but best when there's snow of course!)

Day 8 Osaka

Yudanaka , Osaka

From Yudanaka, take the local and bullet trains to the Japan's third largest and arguably its most lively town of Osaka and visit the Kaiyukan, which is one of the biggest aquariums in the world. Its focal point is the enormous cylindrical tank in the middle. If in season and time allows, watching Japan's other national game, baseball, from the Hanshin Tigers stadium is a must for absolute Japanese modern entertainment.

Day 9 Osaka

Spend the day exploring the Universal Studios Theme Park (tickets included) with its fun rides and attractions to keep the whole family happy and tired!

Day 10 Kyoto

Osaka , Kyoto

Today you will travel to the cultural capital of Kyoto, only a short train ride away. Later this afternoon you will be taken on a privately guided walk of the mysterious Gion geisha district to 'spot' these elusive ladies.

Day 11 Kyoto

This morning is to head out and explore the city's famed temples, including the Golden Pavilion, the Zen gardens of Ryoanji and the unique 'nightingale' beams of Nijo castle that sound when walked on to alert of intruders in days gone by. In the afternoon, take part in a taiko drumming lesson with an expert. Taiko are synonymous with the festivals of Japan and a great way to experience an adrenaline hit.

Day 12 Kyoto

This morning you will get the chance to take part in a cultural activity of your choice such as the quintessentially Japanese green tea ceremony. Later this afternoon, head to the birthplace of ninja at Iga-Ueno. Experience a hands-on workshop as a ninja complete with costume, ninja stars and practise 'dojo'.

Day 13 Tokyo

Kyoto , Tokyo

Take the final bullet train of your trip from Kyoto back to the capital for your final night here. After checking in, spend the remainder of the afternoon at leisure around the west of Tokyo. What better way to end this fantastic trip with a stretch of vocal chords and a wave of a tambourine at a karaoke box - how Japanese!

Day 14 International return flight

Tokyo , International return flight

Today you will be transferred back to the airport in time for your return flight. Your return flight will arrive the same day.
