Lush and picturesque, the Bolaven Plateau lies in the northeastern region of the Champasak province, an hour or so from Pakse.

At a height of 600 metres above sea level, the plateau is scattered with coffee and tea plantations, waterfalls, lush jungle and ethnic minority villages. It offers the visitor a great insight into rural life in this remote, unspoilt corner of Asia.

Things to do

Several days can easily be spent exploring animist and shaman ethnic villages, swimming in the rock pools of the Tad Lo waterfall or visiting tea and coffee plantations, with some beautiful jungle treks for the more adventurous.

The accommodation here is very basic so for some it may be more appropriate to simply visit the area as a day trip from Pakse.
