Ana y José Hotel & Spa is a laid-back beach hotel, situated on a beautiful stretch of golden sandy beach and warm Caribbean Sea. It's a long-standing pick for visitors to Tulum and was one of the first hotels to be built down here. As such, each of the 24 rooms are different and all have their quirks.

Located in two-storey thatched buildings fronting the garden and pool, all rooms are tastefully decorated in a contemporary style and feature air conditioning and private bathrooms. There are only five rooms with twin beds and these can never be guaranteed, the rest are king beds.

As with all hotels in Tulum, electricity is off grid meaning power and hot water can occasionally be temperamental, but the hotel has a back-up generator to ensure any outages are short-lived. Facilities at the hotel include a small swimming pool, Wi-Fi, a spa and an excellent restaurant specialising in Mexican cuisine and ceviche.

OUR OPINION:

A wonderfully located hotel, in a fantastic spot, facing the beach and within walking distance of several restaurants. Please be aware that rooms with balconies have balcony balustrades of a construction that could present a hazard to children. Families will be accommodated in ground-floor rooms.

Rooms

Ana y José has 24 stylish, spacious individually furnished and decorated suites and three villas. All have air conditioning, Wi-Fi, safe, minibar and private bathroom. Beautiful Mexican design touches, fresh flowers and natural papaya bath products all add to the sensual experience. Many of the suites have private dipping pools and hammocks to sway in on the terrace. The Garden View rooms have a shared pool and the Luxury rooms have a private pool or hot tub if on the first floor. All rooms are just a short distance from the crystal-clear waters of a beautiful Caribbean beach. The three-bed Villa Coba has its own private pool and can be booked fully staffed or on a self-catering basis.

Location

Ana y José is located right on the white sand beach of Tulum, in Tulum's beachfront Hotel Zone, about a 15-minute drive from downtown Tulum, and within walking distance of plenty of dining and shopping options down the beach road. Taxis are plentiful in this area, and are an affordable way to get around for those without a car. Tulum's Maya ruins, with a beautiful beach below, are about a 12-minute drive from Ana y José. With the Sian Ka'an biosphere beginning at the end of the beach road, this area is home to many exotic birds and reptiles. Cancun International Airport is approximately an hour and 40 minutes away. 

Food and drink

The restaurant that sits on the sand, serves a selection of local and international dishes that can also be enjoyed from your sunlounger directly on the beach. Choose from a selection of seafood and typical Mexican dishes, and don't miss out on the delicious cocktails.

Families

Unlike many hotels in Tulum, children are welcome here. There are a good number of rooms to choose from, suiting all ages and preferences and the beach is outstanding with safe swimming.

Facilities and activities

For a moment of pure relaxation, make your way to the hotel’s Om Spa, where you can choose from a wide range of beauty and relaxation treatments, such as Papaya Tropical Hydration and Hydro Massage with flowers. Later, head to one of the nearby beaches to unwind in the sunshine. You can also borrow a bicycle to explore the local area, which offers activities including snorkelling, diving and horse riding, or head over to Tulum to experience the ancient Maya ruins there. Facilities at the hotel include a small swimming pool, and an excellent restaurant specialising in Mexican cuisine and ceviche.
