Barahi Jungle Lodge

Barahi Jungle Lodge

Chitwan National Park, Nepal

One of the best properties in Chitwan, the Barahi Jungle Lodge offers a very comfortable stay on the quiet banks of the Rapti River.

The lodge is home to 35 rooms and there is also a spa and outdoor pool, perfect for relaxation. The service here is welcoming and friendly, and the restaurant serves a variety of good food.

OUR OPINION:

A favourite of ours that offers modern accommodation in traditional thatched cottages, with beautiful sit outs overlooking the river. Please note that the hotel's gardens have been allowed to grow wild to mirror the jungle on the other side of the river — it looks lovely, but we'd recommend having insect repellent ready for the evenings.

Rooms

The lodge is home to 35 guest rooms which are spaciously dotted around the grounds. The rooms are influenced by the Tharu culture and have an eco-friendly focus to them. With thatched roofs and rustic wooden furniture, local artwork and private balconies, they are full of character but are also home to luxurious bed linens and modern amenities such as air-conditioning and flat-screen televisions. Electric buggies are on hand to whizz you around to and from the main lodge buildings, or you can enjoy a peaceful walk through the jungle trees, long grasses and gravelled pathways.

Location

Perched on the banks of the Rapti River, Barahi sits opposite Chitwan National Park, not far from Bharatpur in southern Nepal. The quiet location means you often see rhinos wander past along the river — it's beautifully picturesque.

Food and drink

One of the main focuses at the lodge is the organically grown, local produce used in the kitchens. The fresh vegetables and spices are used in both continental dishes as well as authentic Indo-Nepalese cuisine. Although a fantastic menu on offer, the chef can also cater to requests if necessary. Guests can choose to dine around the swimming pool with river views, on the shaded veranda or within the lodge's air-conditioned restaurant. Some evenings, lively dance or music performances can be enjoyed; a great way for colourfully dressed locals to share their cultural traditions.

Facilities and activities

Barahi are proud to have hand-picked the best naturalists in the region, most of whom have lived near and worked within Chitwan for years. Their knowledge and years of experience ensures each activity is personalised and helps you to see the park and its wildlife in the best way. Canoe rides, jeep safaris, village walks and hikes are all possible to arrange and give you a fantastic insight into the area. When not exploring the national park, relax in the lodge's spa, enjoy the swimming pool or just unwind with a drink in the river-side bar.
