Hilltop on High Street, Dunedin, New Zealand

This historic home was originally built in 1904, and now provides luxurious and elegant accommodation with superb panoramic views of the city and harbour.

Throughout the building, traditional features such as ornate plaster ceilings, coloured leadlight windows, a sweeping staircase and tiled fireplaces ensure the property retains its original ambience. However, each of the three guest suites is individually designed with contemporary furnishings and offers a selection of modern comforts such as tea- and coffee-making facilities, DVD player and heat pump/air-conditioning. The Salmond Suite and Lawson Suite both have en suite bathrooms; the Shaw Suite has a private bathroom just a few steps along the hallway. The stylish surroundings are complemented by landscaped gardens that provide sanctuary, privacy and relaxation.

Your hosts provide a sumptuous breakfast each morning, and will be delighted to provide details of the best art galleries, shopping and restaurants in the city.

    Alternative places to stay nearby

Where possible, we like to offer a range of accommodation for each stop of your trip, chosen by our specialists as some of their favourite places to stay. To help you make the right choice, we give each property a rating based on its facilities and service, but we also look for hotels with distinct character or a location that can’t be bettered.

    Experiences while staying here

The following activities are designed to give you the most authentic experiences of the area where you’re staying. We work with local guides, who use their knowledge and often a resident’s eye to show you the main sights and more out-of-the-way attractions. Our specialists can also suggest outdoor pursuits and activities, such as cooking classes, that will introduce you to the traditions of the area’s inhabitants.
