The best time to visit Saint Kitts and Nevis is between February and May, which are the driest months. The climate is hot and tropical all year round, with average highs of around 28°C.

July to November is the wettest period. However, when the rain does come it’s usually brief, and the average hours of sunshine are pretty consistent throughout the year.

June to November is the official hurricane season, although storms only usually hit during September or October.

January has an average high of 25°C (77°F). Although there are occasional rainy days, it is still one of the driest, sunniest months. It is a popular month to travel and we recommend booking well in advance.

  • New Year’s Day and Carnival Day (2nd January) celebrate the arrival of the New Year with parades, calypso competitions and street dancing.

These are the driest months, with a comfortable average temperature of 24°C (75°F) making them the most popular time to travel, so we recommend booking in advance.

These months can be a great time to travel as prices are significantly lower and the weather is only slightly wetter than in February and March.

  • Labour Day (2nd May) celebrates the struggle for workers’ rights. On Saint Kitts, workers' unions and political parties lead parades across the island. Nevis is more relaxed with community barbecues and bands playing on the streets.
  • Whit Monday, marking the end of the Easter period, is a family-centred public holiday with picnics and barbecues across the island.

Visiting Saint Kitts and Nevis in June - November

The quietest time to visit, attractive offers make prices a fraction of those offered during the high season. Rainfall is at its highest, peaking in October. This usually consists of relatively short but heavy tropical showers. However, there are still plenty of sunshine hours, peaceful beaches and the islands become more lush with rich green vegetation and beautiful tropical flowers. The official hurricane season falls between July and November, and although the risk of hurricanes is very small, you might encounter tropical storms.

  • Emancipation day, at the beginning of August marks the emancipation of slaves across the Caribbean. A long weekend of festivities, including "street jamming", beauty pageants and calypso parades occurs on both islands.
  • National Heroes Day honours individuals who have made significant contributions to society. A public holiday, it culminates in a popular concert on Saint Kitts.

December is a little drier, but the island is particularly lush and has colourful vegetation after the rain. Christmas is a very popular time to visit, with many people booking a year or more in advance. Many hotels operate a minimum stay over the festive period.

  • December is a lively carnival month with the Saint Kitts and Nevis National Carnival taking place in the middle of the month. Between Christmas Day and New Year there are usually a vibrant array of carnivals, one of which is specifically for children.
