Mahaweli Reach, Kandy, Sri Lanka
Located amongst beautiful hills and alongside the Mahaweli, Sri Lanka's largest river, the Mahaweli Reach is one of the most comfortable hotels in the town. The grand entrance leads through to a superb free-form pool which is overlooked by many of the rooms. There are two wings, each with five floors as well as a further block of rooms overlooking the river. The restaurant offers extensive buffet and a la carte menus and the bar by the pool serves snacks from lunchtime onwards. The range of facilities combined with friendly staff are a credit to the tradition of Kandyan hospitality.

Where possible, we like to offer a range of accommodation for each stop of your trip, chosen by our specialists as some of their favourite places to stay. To help you make the right choice, we give each property a rating based on its facilities and service, but we also look for hotels with distinct character or a location that can’t be bettered.
Experiences while staying here
The following activities are designed to give you the most authentic experiences of the area where you’re staying. We work with local guides, who use their knowledge and often a resident’s eye to show you the main sights and more out-of-the-way attractions. Our specialists can also suggest outdoor pursuits and activities, such as cooking classes, that will introduce you to the traditions of the area’s inhabitants.
The picturesque railway to Nuwara Eliya passes waterfalls and tea plantations, as well as Adam's Peak in the distance.
Traditional Kandyan dances include the cobra dance, mask dance, the Ginisila, showing power over fire. The entire frenetic and colourful spectacle climaxes with the amazing fire-walking act.
The Kelaniya Ganga is a stunning river offering some excellent, though relatively gentle, white-water rafting.
