Rayavadee

Krabi, Thailand

Set amid the dramatic limestone karst scenery of Phra Nang headland and surrounded by some of Krabi's best beaches, Rayavadee is a village-style resort with a sleek and sophisticated style. A sense of exclusivity sets in the moment you board the private boat that brings you to the hotel. Once you arrive, the lush gardens, chic decor and faultless service confirm it.

The rooms are set in stand-alone, colonial-style pavilions ensuring a great sense of privacy. Inside, they are spacious and bright with elegant Thai styling, private terraces, separate storeys for lounging and sleeping, and generous bathrooms with huge baths. Monkeys flit between the trees outside and soft, white sands are just a short stroll away.

Phra Nang Beach can get busy but it's easy to see why, its velvety sands and dramatic cliff backdrop are the stuff of daydreams. You can walk to quieter coves or lounge by the lagoon-style pool, dine in one of the four restaurants or sip cocktails in a candlelit cave at sunset. On top of this there's a decadent spa and a host of water sports, guided walks and boat trips to choose from.

OUR OPINION:

We love the romantic notion of arriving at the resort by boat and the sense of privacy in the detached pavilion rooms. The level of comfort, numerous dining and activity options and glorious beaches just heighten the sense of indulgence.

Rooms

The 96 rooms and five villas are all decorated in chic colonial style with dark woods, hand-crafted furniture, and wicker chairs. Each of the rooms is set in a circular two-storey pavilion which is secluded behind coconut palms and lush foliage ensuring a great sense of privacy. Downstairs there's a spacious sitting room and terrace with a curving staircase leading up to a generously sized bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows and all modern facilities. All rooms have TVs, DVD players and free Wi-Fi, while Pool Pavilions have private pools, Jacuzzis and dedicated butler service.

Location

Only accessible by boat and set between three white-sand beaches flanked by towering limestone cliffs, Rayavadee has an idyllic setting in lush grounds with mature trees. Popular Railay Beach is on one side, while jungle walks take you to more secluded coves, panoramic viewpoints and turquoise lagoons. You can spot monkeys swinging through the trees from your terrace and exotic vegetation everywhere you go.

Food and drink

The resort has four dining options with breakfast served in the Raya Dining restaurant where later in the day you can choose from a menu of elegantly-presented Western dishes. Poolside Raitalay Terrace is more casual and offers light meals and vivid sunsets. A stroll along a quiet path leads to beachside Krua Phranang where you can enjoy traditional Thai seafood, while the Grotto is perhaps the most romantic of all, a restaurant set in an open-ended cave below the towering limestone cliffs. Regular seafood barbecues are held here and it's a great spot for a cocktail at sunset.
