Karatay Madrasa

Visit to the Mevlana Museum and Karatay Madrasa

The Mevlana Museum is located right in the heart of Konya and is a beautiful site in itself, attracting Muslim visitors from all over the world.

The museum consists of the mausoleum of the famous Sufi mystic Rumi, and a dervish lodge of the Mevlevi order: several attractive buildings set around a courtyard, where members of the Mevlevi order lived and conducted their studies.

It's a fascinating museum, with rooms laid out in the manner in which they would have been used, and information detailing the use and history of the rooms and the items within.

The Karatay Madrasa is an excellent example of Seljuk architecture, and has been converted into a national museum of tilework, so beautiful is its interior.

Built in 1251 as an Islamic school, the Madrasa now displays archaeological finds from Kubadabad Palace, a royal summer palace located on the shores of Lake Beyşehir, which was discovered in the 1970s.
