Day 1 New Orleans

International outbound flight , New Orleans

Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to New Orleans. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by your driver and taken to your hotel by private transfer. The remainder of the day is free to relax after your journey.

Day 2 New Orleans

New Orleans

This morning, enjoy breakfast at your hotel before making your way to the New Orleans School of Cooking. Here, you will enjoy a 2-hour cooking experience where you will learn all about Cajun and Creole cuisine. Watch a local chef prepare traditional classics such as shrimp gumbo, jambalaya and bread pudding before tucking in to enjoy some yourself. In the afternoon, we recommend wandering the streets of the French Quarter or escaping the tourist trail on a walking tour of the Garden District before unwinding with a Sazerac at a local jazz bar.

Day 3 New Orleans

New Orleans

Spend the day exploring the city at your own pace. You may enjoy visiting local favourite Café du Monde to sample their beignets and chicory coffee. To avoid looking like a tourist, grab any open seat as the locals do. This evening, you have tickets to a performance at the Preservation Hall, an intimate and prestigious music venue that hosts the city’s traditional jazz musicians.

Day 4 Vacherie

New Orleans , Vacherie

Leaving New Orleans behind, you will be driven out to Plantation Country by private transfer. Leafy and rich in fascinating history, this area along the south-western edge of the Mississippi has a number of grand plantation homes that are open to the public for tours. This evening, you will be staying at Audley favourite, Oak Alley Plantation, whose famous for its 800ft long alee of oaks running from the Mississippi river to the main house.

Day 5 Vacherie

Vacherie

After a leisurely breakfast, spend the day exploring at your own pace, visiting points of interest dotted around plantation country. There are a number of interesting spots to visit, including Laura Plantation, one of Louisiana’s Creole Heritage Sites. Here, you can walk in the footsteps of four generations of a Creole family and learn from first-hand accounts from those enslaved on the plantation.

Day 6 Baton Rouge

Vacherie , Baton Rouge

This morning, your driver will pick you up from Oak Alley and take you to the Louisiana capital of Baton Rouge by private transfer. Upon arrival at your hotel, head into downtown for lunch at Main Street Market. There are also plenty of boutique shops to browse.

Day 7 Baton Rouge

Spend the day exploring Baton Rouge. You may wish to take a free guided tour of the State Capitol, an excellent example of art deco design and the tallest of its kind in the United States. The Louisiana State Museum is also worth a visit and is within walking distance from the State Capitol. You can also visit the Old State Capitol, a historic building that houses a museum of political history with interactive exhibits.

Day 8 Lafayette

Baton Rouge , Lafayette

Your last stop will be Lafayette, the heart of Louisiana’s Cajun Country. Your driver will meet you at your hotel and take you to Lafayette by private transfer. This afternoon, you may wish to explore the historic village of Vermilionville on a guided tour, which displays the Creole and American Indian cultures from 1765 to 1890. This evening, visit Blue Moon Saloon, a honky-tonk known across America for its roots music.

Day 9 Lafayette

No trip to Louisiana is complete without visiting one of the wildlife and birdlife-rich swamps. The Atchafalaya Basin is one of the most eco-diverse swamps in the States, with bald cypress trees spouting tall above the murky waters and alligators basking on the banks. Your small-group boat tour will begin at the Atchafalaya Welcome Center and your guide will take you out onto the water to discover the hidden corners of the basin. Keep your eyes peeled for over 38 species of bird, curious alligators, playful beavers and otters and grazing deer.

Day 10 International return flight

Lafayette , International return flight

This morning, you will be met by your driver at your hotel and be driven back to New Orleans airport to catch your overnight flight home.
