Museum of Ethnology

Twenty minutes outside Hanoi on the road toward the airport, the Museum of Ethnology is a fascinating insight into the cultural diversity of Vietnam. It is a newly built, hands-on museum with displays of art and everyday objects from various tribes.

The exhibits are well labelled in English and it is rewarding to just wander round in your own time. There are live displays of processes such as conical hat making and Tay minority shamanic ceremonies.

The museum is a good way to gain an understanding of the people you may meet if you travelled to the Tonkinese Alps.
