Ruckomechi Camp lies on the banks of the Zambezi in a private concession on the western boundary of Mana Pools National Park. If you're not greeted by one of the many elephant which frequent the camp, the first thing you'll notice is the superb view of the mountains of Africa's Great Rift Valley across the river in Zambia.

The central dining, bar, library and lounge areas face the escarpment and are connected to the rest of the camp by low-level walkways. There is a separate deck with a pool for swimming and sunbathing, and a cushion-strewn stargazing deck where a fire is lit each evening. For guests who are tired after a long day on safari, there is also a beautifully private roll-topped tub with views out toward the water.

Ruckomechi accommodates guests in ten spacious en suite tented units, including a family suite, all of which overlook the river. Views vary throughout the year, depending on the height of the water — a sweeping expanse of river in June may become a reed-covered island teeming with hippo by October. Each tent has both indoor and outdoor showers and comfortable beds with white linen covers. The rooms have hot water and lighting provided by solar power and the aim of the camp is to be as low impact on the environment as possible.
