Victoria Falls Hotel

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Built by the British in 1904, historic Victoria Falls Hotel overlooks Victoria Falls Bridge and the dramatic Batoka Gorge below. Situated in large, private gardens, its colonial style and tranquil atmosphere has long been a favourite with visitors. The property has one of the best positions of any hotel around the falls, with a short walk along the private pathway bringing you out at the top of the gorge for a wonderful view of the bridge connecting Zimbabwe with Zambia.

Inside, the hotel is decorated with colonial prints and antique furniture; with four-poster beds in many of the rooms furthering the feeling of grandeur.

There are nine different room and suite categories, each featuring air conditioning, Wi-Fi, safes and satellite TVs. Standard rooms can have single, double or twin beds, while Central Deluxe rooms are twin or double and offer views of the gardens or the gorge and bridge. Situated in a standalone building, the Stables Signature Wing rooms have views of the lawns or courtyard and feature Victorian-style bath tubs. Guests can also enjoy private check-in, complimentary afternoon tea and a massage voucher.

Suites offer more space, privacy and additional services and amenities, such as fresh flowers, evening snack deliveries, Belgian chocolates and fruits. Most have separate lounges and some can interconnect with other rooms to accommodate larger groups. The two-bedroom Livingstone Presidential Suite also has the option of a butler service.

Location

The hotel is situated in Victoria Falls town and overlooks Victoria Falls Bridge. The falls themselves are just a ten minute walk away, and there are lots of activities to enjoy in the surrounding area for both adrenaline junkies and those looking for peace and relaxation. The town of Livingstone is just across the border in Zambia, offering craft markets and museums.

Food and Drink

Edwardian-style restaurant Livingstone Room offers à la carte menus for dinner only, while the thatched Jungle Junction offers breakfast and dinner buffets featuring African fusion cuisine, with views over the gorge and nightly cultural entertainment. On Stanley’s Terrace you can enjoy daily afternoon tea and light meals. Drinks can be enjoyed at the poolside bar, with snacks served under thatched gazebos, while sundowners and cocktails are served in Stanley’s Bar.

Families

The hotel offers interconnecting rooms and suites, while several accommodation options feature additional bedrooms, making them suitable for families.

Honeymooners

The Honeymoon Suites are located in the standalone Stable Wing and offer spacious balconies, four-poster beds and extras such as sparkling wine, bath salts and fresh flowers.

Facilities and Activities

You can make use of the pool, tennis courts, gym, spa and hair salon. There’s also a cosy Residents’ Lounge and an internet lounge. For art lovers, there’s a sculpture exhibition and an art gallery showcasing the work of local wildlife artist Larry Norton. The hotel has its own private entrance to Victoria Falls, which you can visit as many times as you like during your stay.

Local Excursions

A variety of activities can be arranged in the local area, including a sunset steam train ride over the gorge, helicopter and microlight flights, abseiling, bungee jumps and gorge swings off the bridge, canoeing, white water rafting, sunset cruises, fishing and trips to Devil’s Pool, which is right on the edge of the falls. You can also go on guided walking and cultural tours, while a golf course is located ten minutes away from the hotel.

Our opinion

The Victoria Falls Hotel has an excellent reputation and an interesting history. We like its elegant colonial style and, of course, its proximity to Victoria Falls, which allows you to avoid the busiest times of day.
