Located 50 kilometres out in the Bay of Plenty, the island is visible from much of the coastline, and this trip will take you from Rotorua over Hell's Gate Thermal Valley, the northern lakes and on to the Pacific Ocean. You will circle the volcano and get a bird's eye view of the crater in all its steaming glory then return over Mount Tarawera, Waimangu Volcanic Valley and the Blue and Green Lakes.
