Visit the Golden Ring, Russia
Jump to:
Scattered amidst the plains, lakes and marshes northeast of Moscow are a collection of ancient Russian towns known collectively as the Golden Ring.
This region played a significant role in the early days of the Russian state, and the splendid churches, monasteries and kremlins (city forts) that remain provide a wonderful architectural chronicle of this period.
Exploring the Golden Ring
Many of the Golden Ring towns can be visited as a day trip from Moscow, but to truly escape the city and get a feel for the peaceful rural life as it is lived across European Russia we recommend a few days’ exploration with a private car and knowledgeable local guide.
