Charlotte, South Africa Specialist

I studied as an accountant with a focus on international affairs but always had a passion for travel, which led me to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. I instantly fell in love with Africa. I was smitten by the vast wilderness, dramatic landscapes and prolific wildlife and vowed to continue exploring this wonderfully diverse continent. In order to pursue this passion I joined Audley as a South Africa specialist.

South Africa is a multifaceted nation and often referred to as having 'a whole world in one country'. Its contrasting landscapes, diverse people and disparate cultural influences make it a highly rewarding destination. I've explored ostrich farms in the Karoo, vineyards in the Western Cape and was hugely impressed by the landscape of the Drakensburg Mountains but horse riding in the Kwa Zulu Natal region remains a highlight of my most recent trip.

I'll never forget when…

I was out on an evening safari in the Kruger region of South Africa and was quite excited as our guide and tracker told us that a pack of wild dog and their puppies had been spotted crossing into the reserve earlier that day. Wild dog are one of the most endangered species of carnivore in the world and I knew this would be a rare opportunity to see them. Our tracker spotted one wild dog in the distance but as we cautiously approached three others emerged from the bushes right in front of us with their puppies. It was a totally unexpected surprise.
