Sam, Canada, Alaska & the Arctic Specialist

Sam has always had a passion for travel, flying around Europe with friends throughout his school years. On leaving school he joined British Airways as Cabin Crew, working long-haul flights and travelling around the world, frequently to North America. He fell in love with Canada for the sheer vastness of the country, the incredible variety of its cities and the spectacular beauty of its wilderness.

On leaving British Airways, Sam went to university, where he studied for a degree in English Literature. During his time at university he returned to Canada to further explore the country he loved. On graduation Sam joined Audley and has since returned to Canada and Alaska for extensive travel, visiting and sampling some of our favourite accommodation, excursions and trips we arrange for our clients.

Sam's Most Memorable Experience

Being on a boat surrounded by orcas, off the coast of Vancouver Island is one of my most memorable experiences. I had always wanted to see whales in their natural habitat and am fascinated by these huge creatures. Our boat set sail from Victoria, on the south of Vancouver Island and we headed out to sea. There's always a nervousness among passengers on trips like this that you'll see nothing at all.

Before we knew it we had our first sighting and then more and more orcas appeared. They played in the water, rolling their bodies and flapping their fins. The highlight was when all spectators fell silent and you could hear an orchestra of forty whales breathing, blowing water into the air. It was truly humbling.
