Steve grew up with a passion for the Middle East, South Africa and for travel. He was born in Bahrain and spent his childhood split between the Arabian Gulf and Cape Town. By the age of 11 he had ticked off all of the continents, except Antarctica. After university he moved to Australia, only settling in the UK and starting to call it home at the age of 23.
Before joining Audley, he worked in finance and as a youth worker, but during this time his passion to explore the world continued. One of the most notable of his journeys involved driving the length of the Egyptian Nile and it was from this trip that his passion grew for the wealth of history that the country has to offer.
Now settled with his wife and two daughters, Steve joined Audley, revisiting Egypt, South Africa and also exploring Oman. His hope is to introduce many more people to the warm hospitality of Arab culture and the magnificent diversity of South Africa, as well as to instil his daughters with the same travel bug he inherited during his formative years.

I'll never forget when…
Having spent three hours getting to Abu Simbel from Aswan, I was a little weary as I walked towards the temple on a warm autumn day and unsure as to what awaited me. As I rounded the bend and took in the initial view of the temple the sun was glistening off the rocks - a magnificent sight and well worth the long drive.
It was a very quiet day and I had the privilege of spending 30 minutes in the Temple of Ramesses all by myself. The real highlight of my visit was seeing how many layers of history are right in front of you, and that even includes graffiti from early travellers and French troops in the 1800s if you look closely enough!
