Acajou Beach Resort
Set on one of the Seychelles' best beaches, Acajou has all the powder soft sands and swaying palms of your daydreams. It's a small, locally-run place with an intimate atmosphere and natural charm that sets it apart from the larger resorts.
The hotel is located on Côte D’Or, a long stretch of mesmerising white sand, home to just a handful of small hotels. All are set back slightly from the shore giving them a very secluded nature and the beach a very undeveloped feel. You can, however, walk to a selection of small local shops and restaurants offering guests the option to retreat and relax or get out and explore. In many ways Acajou feels more like a guesthouse than a resort with the owners keen to promote local culture and the laid-back atmosphere and friendly service making a stay a very personal experience. Many of the rooms are set in two-storey, timber-framed buildings constructed from native acajou wood and power comes from solar panels. Local musicians and singers perform several times a week. Along with this you'll get two restaurants, a beachfront pool, a small fitness room and bikes to rent, while water sports, diving, boat trips and fishing can all be arranged locally.
The 52 rooms are set in timber-framed buildings with traditional decor and plenty of local woods or in newer buildings at the beachfront with a lighter, brighter decor. All have air-conditioning and balconies.
Before the beach - 4 days
Situated in the Seychelles’ most northerly archipelago, tiny Bird Island is ideal for nature lovers. The birdlife is spectacular here with large numbers of lesser and brown noddies, fairy terns and waders. You will also see giant tortoises, including Esmeralda, the largest in the world, and the hawksbill turtles that lay their eggs on the shore. You can snorkel right off the white sands into the brightly coloured coral reefs where turtles swim between the shoals of exotic fish.
Bird Island Lodge is one of our favourite ecolodges. Set on a private island, the 24 comfortable bungalows each have a king size bed and spacious veranda, while fresh fish and organic meat, fruit and vegetables come from the property’s own small farm.
Acajou Beach Resort
52 rooms, 2 restaurants, 1 pool
One of the key highlights of Acajou Beach Resort is its fantastic location on beautiful Cote D’Or Beach. Set right on the beachfront of this long stretch of typically Seychellois, powder soft sand, it’s perfect for beach lovers looking for a relaxing break. With a scattering of local restaurants and small shops within walking distance it’s also well suited to those who’d like to explore a little.
Set amongst pretty gardens, the low rise, timber buildings of the resort have an almost log cabin feel and blend well with the pretty gardens.
A small, characterful resort, its local owners have been involved in the country’s tourism industry for decades and are committed to promoting and protecting Seychelles’ Creole culture and you can see the pride and care the owners take of the resort.
Acajou Beach Resort welcomes families although there are no specific children’s facilities.
This small resort offers an unbeatable location on one of Praslin’s best beaches. Although it may not have the wide range of facilities or the slick, modern design of a larger hotel it makes up for this with a more intimate atmosphere and real charm and is a great choice for a relaxing break.
The 52 rooms are set in two storey, timber framed buildings within the pretty gardens or in a newer two storey building at the beachfront. Each is air-conditioned and offers wi-fi, mini bar and tea/coffee facilities.
Please note the rooms are equipped with shower only and don’t have a bath tub.
Deluxe rooms are set in a newer building on the beachfront with excellent ocean views. They are larger than the Standard and Superior Rooms with a fresh, light décor.
The 2 Family Rooms, set in the newer beachfront building, offer 2 spacious bedrooms and are a convenient option for families.
One Bedroom Self-Catering Apartment
These apartments are set at the back of the resort and have a small combined kitchen and living room as well as a separate bedroom.
These rooms are on the ground floor with a small balcony set just a few steps above the gardens. Inside the timber walls continue the log cabin style of the outside of the building and the rooms are simply furnished but in good condition offering comfortable accommodation.
The Superior Rooms are slightly larger than the Standard Rooms and are set on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the gardens.
Two Bedroom Self-Catering Apartment
Set at the back of the resort, these apartments 2 bedrooms and a combined kitchen and living room.
Activities, diving & excursions
There is a beachfront pool as well as a small fitness room. Bicycles can be rented for the resort and although watersports aren’t available directly from the hotel they can be arranged nearby.
As this is a small, boutique property it doesn’t have the wide range of facilities that the larger chains offer and a stay here is all about enjoying the beauty of its prime, beachfront location and exploring the island.
Diving can be arranged through a couple of nearby dive centres.
Food & drink
There are 2 restaurants at the hotel.
Les Boucaniers serves buffet breakfast and either table d’hote set menu or themed buffets for dinner. Several times a week diners are entertained by local musicians and singers.
The Starfish pool bar and restaurant offers a simple, casual setting overlooking the beachfront serving drinks and snacks all day. It is open for lunch serving a selection of salads or sandwiches, fresh seafood and local specialities such as octopus curry.
The hotel doesn’t have a spa but there is a massage room where guests can enjoy a variety of treatments.
