Before joining Audley Travel, John worked in travel and then as a public school teacher in Massachusetts teaching high school Spanish and History. A lifelong traveler he first began venturing outside the US at a young age to visit family in Colombia. This started an annual tradition that took him through Eastern Europe with his high school. While studying Political Science at Gettysburg College, he took advantage of a semester abroad to spend six months in Australia and New Zealand while at the University of Queensland in Brisbane. He then embarked on a five month backpacking trip through Europe. Knowing he wanted to encourage others to experience the same John started working as a travel agent before joining an online startup offering travel packaging solutions. Forever the believer in sharing his favorite parts of the world with others, John was thrilled to learn of the opening at Audley when he decided to leave teaching and return to his original passions.

I'll never forget when…
My most memorable experience in New Zealand was without a doubt making a snowman while on the top of a glacier in a snow squall. Being from New England I have made my fair share of snowmen over the years but this was truly unique. I had just come off an excellent cruise through Milford Sound aboard the Milford Mariner and was flying back to Queenstown via helicopter. After lifting off we flew so close to the mountains you almost felt like you could reach out a touch them. The experience of passing from a misty wet and sunny day in Milford to suddenly coming upon a snow squall was humbling when the five of us emerged from the helicopter each with a smile that was more reminiscent of a four year old at his birthday party than a group of travelers who couldn’t begin to remember our fourth birthdays! And what do you do when you find yourself in the middle of a snow squall in early spring after landing on a glacier… why, build a snowman of course!
