Itinerary idea in detail

  • Welcome to Tasmania. Pick up your hire car from the airport and drive to your accommodation, a boutique property whose restaurant is one the very best in Tasmania. The rest of your day is free to make your own discoveries around Launceston. Cataract Gorge walk is beautiful or you can take the Cascade Brewery tour which gives a fascinating insight into the town's social history.

  • Today you will be taken on a private tour of the Tamar Valley to enjoy its delicious wine and local produce. Pepper Bush Adventures is a family run operation renowned across Tasmania and Australia as one of its very best tour operators, so you can be guaranteed that your guide really knows their stuff. The food and wine scene in Tasmania is arguably the best in the country at the moment and this tour takes you its heart.

  • Drive south today into the heart of Tasmania. Your destination is the remote Thousand Lakes Lodge, the perfect setting to enjoy the vast open spaces of Tasmania and your own slice of nature. There are a wide range of nature walks available from your accommodation, from short one-hour strolls to full-day hikes in the wilderness. Alternatively, you could borrow some bikes and cycle the trails, go fishing, or simply relax and enjoy what has been proven to be some of the cleanest air in the world.

  • Today we would recommend heading on a day-trip to Lake St. Clair. There are multiple bush walks around the lake, or you could go boating. A trip to the multi-tiered Russell Falls is a must.

  • Continue south to the state capital of Hobart. If it's a clear day you might want to drive to the top of Mt Wellington to take in the views of Hobart and the surrounding bays. This afternoon introduce yourself to the city with a wander around the streets of historic Hobart, and enjoy a drink in one of its pubs that have housed many convicts and smugglers over the years.

  • Today's experience is a private tour of Port Arthur and the Tasman Peninsula. The tour is tailored on the day to your specific interests. As an example you might like to take a tour of the historical convict site Port Arthur, go for a walk along the dramatic coastline of the Tasman Peninsula, or take the chance to see Tasmanian devils at a local wildlife sanctuary.

  • One of the best ways to experience the remoteness of Tasmania is by air. Today you will embark on a scenic flight over Wineglass Bay, before landing on Maria Island to explore. On the island you can expect to see plenty of wombats and kangaroos, and hopefully the rarer swift parrots, Cape Barron geese and maybe a Tasmanian devil.

  • Depart Hobart today.
