Hotel Punta Islita

Punta Islita, Costa Rica

Hotel Punta Islita is a spectacular hotel that makes the most of its Pacific location. There are just 50 rooms decorated in a distinctive architectural style encompassing a warm ambiance and privacy.

Service is friendly and efficient with plenty of smiles. The feel of the resort is very natural due to the hotel's eco credentials — most people are here to enjoy a quiet time and see the natural wonders of Costa Rica.

All the rooms are cut into the hillside around a central facility comprising the bar, restaurant (expect first world pricing), wet bar, infinity pool with stunning views and a gym. There is a separate complex down by the beach with an additional restaurant and pool. The black sand beach is safe for swimming but you do need to be a fairly strong swimmer.

The hotel also has its own golf course and canopy zip lines. A unique spa uses the herbalist wisdom of the local native Chorotega tribes.

OUR OPINION:

This is a hotel with a spectacular location overlooking the Pacific; the environs are very natural and unspoilt. It is remote with the exception of the little local village which the hotel supports. A wonderful property that delivers good quality and charm.

Food and drink

The stylish 1492 Restaurant showcases the rich textures, vibrant colors, and intense flavors of Costa Rica's culinary traditions. Fresh local and regional ingredients are playfully combined with the flare and zest that reflects Costa Rica's ethnic diversity and Guanacaste's natural exuberance. 1492 Restaurant's 50-foot thatched palm ceiling and open layout are inspired by the architectural style of ancient native cultures for a memorable dining experience.

A free-form pool framed by a secluded beach and landscaped tropical gardens are Borrancho Beach Club’s main attractions. Environmental and social responsibility

One of the reasons we love Punta Islita is its commitment to responsible tourism. The surrounding tropical dry forest is home to hundreds of species of wildlife and the hotel ensures the most appropriate conservation strategies are applied in order to preserve and encourage the propagation of endemic flora and fauna.

They have also pioneered a responsible tourism program that encourages the preservation of local cultures and rational use of natural resources including a public library, a composting station and a recycling program.

Under the hotel's sponsorship and guided by Marcela Valdeavellano and Loida Pretiz, the Punta Islita Contemporary Art Museum is the flagship project of the 'We Care Responsible Tourism Model' and features the works of established Costa Rican and international artists and members of the local community.
